Sir Bobby Charlton is one of the most respected figures in world football, speaking at the launch of the Academy, Sir Bobby talked about the importance of giving all young players the opportunity to develop their skills and reach their own level of potential. "All around the world, children want to emulate their heroes, but it is important that young players remain dedicated, listen to their coaches and work hard to improve". He said his vision, was to create a sports academy "not just for the elite", but where all children, regardless of sporting ability, could have an exciting day out while learning about nutrition, fitness and teamwork. David Beckham was a star pupil at the Bobby Charlton Soccer Schools from 1986-1988. The Academy is open to all abilities, welcoming boys and girls aged eight to fifteen.

After registration you will be introduced to your coaches and the day`s agenda, you will take part in a coaching session tailored around the Academy`s own personally developed `theme park` equipment. During your lunch break you will enjoy taking part in a fun quiz, and then join your coaching session for more skills training. Your training will include passing the ball control, dribbling and shooting. You will then be able to put your new found skills into practice by taking part in a mini league game competition.

Before the end of your exciting day, three children per group will be selected by their coach for a special prize in recognition of their day`s performance. Throughout the day children will be tested on the techniques of football and assigned points depending on their accomplishments, the player with the highest total of points will be invited to compete in the Academy`s annual World Skills Final, previously won by David Beckham. All children will be presented with a certificate of attendance to take home. This will be one day you will never forget, and who knows who will be the next David Backham?

Things you need to know

You will spend approximately 7 hours at the Academy.

There will be a maximum of 64 children on the day.

The course is for 8 to 15 year olds.

This experience is available on selected dates between May to September 2008., However, please note that this day is bespoke, therefore the date availability is extremely limited.

Other Information

You should have good general fitness in order to attend.

You do not require any qualifications except an interest in football.

Spectator Information:

Parents can attend the registration at the beginning and presentation at the end of the day.
