There may be as few as 5,000 snow leopards left in the wild today. The two orphaned snow leopards, Alcu and Bagira, were rescued from poachers who had kept them in appalling conditions, hoping to sell them for their fur and bones. Funds from the adoption programme also support a specialist anti-poaching team.
