Despite the recession, women have realised they can still look good even though they are on a budget, which bodes well for pampering spa days in the year ahead.
We may not be able to afford weekly trips to the hairdresser or lengthy stays at the
health spa, but good grooming is within anyone's reach, says beauty and technology expert Zara Rabinowicz.
"As the financial crisis continues, people will make sure they don't squander their cash," she warns.
"I foresee powerful women with dark eyes and smouldering lips. Lipsticks will be used, but sparingly, as the new lip will be slightly bitten rather than coloured in."
And while both cosmetic manufacturers and consumers have been negatively affected by the economic crisis, there is a number of fascinating beauty trends to consider when choosing
birthday gifts for your nearest and dearest.
Mood beauty, whereby beauty products are enhanced with ingredients that act on neurotransmitters in the brain to promote feelings of wellbeing, is one such trend, says Nica Lewis, director of beauty innovation at Mintel.
