Architect: E Warmsley Lewis with W E Trent.
Opened: 1930

The Apollo Victoria was originally built as an art deco super cinema; it had facilities to stage a theatre production, which would at the time have preceded a film! The cinema closed in 1975 for six years and reopened as the Apollo Victoria Theatre with a Shirley Bassey concert. In 1983, 1,262 seats were removed to accommodate a roller skating track for Starlight Express, the Andrew Lloyd Webber smash hit musical. After this production closed in 2002 the theatre was extensively refurbished including the replacement of the seats, and when it reopened it is now the largest West End Theatre.
Past Productions at the Apollo Victoria Theatre:
- The Sound of Music starring Petula Clark in 1981,
- Camelot starring Richard Harris in 1982,
- Fiddler on the Roof starring Topol also in 1983.
- Bombay Dreams by Andrew Lloyd Webber in 2002
- A Broadway production of “Wicked” the theatre production of the Wizard of Oz, had its European première at the Apollo Victoria Theatre starring Idina Menzel. The show took £761,000 during its first eight performances a record-breaking figure.
